22 Aug Get Turner builds ‘tandem’ extensions for neighbours
Get Turner recently completed ‘tandem’ extensions for next-door neighbours in East London, both of which were designed by Architecture for London (AFL).
The two sets of clients, with adjacent houses on a terraced street, decided to save costs and minimise disruption by instructing the same architects, and the same building contractor, to work on both projects at once. The designs are clearly different, showing the clients’ individual styles, but were also designed to work together aesthetically. Both houses were finished to an extremely high spec, including Get Turner-produced built-in storage in one house and bespoke kitchens in both properties.
This ‘tandem’ approach between neighbours is unusual but may well catch on, as more and more Londoners opt to extend and improve their existing properties rather than go to the greater expense of moving.
