This whole-house refurbishment was our fourth project on Durant Street, a lovely terrace of two-storey Victorian houses near the Columbia Road flower market. We have also completed several projects with this architect, Roger Crimlis of AUDB. The clients decided to appoint Get Turner as their contractor, and we then worked with them and Roger to get the specification and costs to the right levels.

The house was refurbished from top to bottom as it hadn’t been touched for some time. We installed a new heating system and rewired the electrics, fitted new wood flooring, windows and doors.

A rooflight was added to the landing, bringing much-needed natural light into the upstairs area; the existing staircase was transformed with oak-clad stairs and a bespoke metal-railed balustrade; and an exposed brick wall was created in the main bedroom, providing a striking contrast with the rest of the room.

The bespoke galley kitchen was designed and handcrafted by our joiner, as was the bathroom vanity unit. They were both made of sprayed-MDF units topped with Corian, with cut-outs for the sinks. Bespoke storage was added to make best use of the space, with built-in cupboards beneath the staircase, around the mantlepiece in the living room, and in the bathroom. Floor-to-ceiling built-in wardrobes in the main bedroom also added a significant amount of discreet storage space.

Since completing this house, we have already started work on an extension and refurbishment project two doors down!
