Groombridge Road, E9
5-storey Victorian terraced house
Rear extension, basement, loft, refurbishment and garden work
Sean & Stephen Ltd
Our client has kept a brilliant Insta diary of the project’s progress – @newwavehouseproject
The house has also generated a lot of outside interest: it was on the visiting list for Open House London 2019 and featured in Metro and Time Out; and made the cover of Kitchens, Bedrooms and Bathrooms magazine.
With a rapidly expanding young family, our clients needed to think big. This huge project involved gutting the entire house, rebuilding and extending it up, down and back to create a stunning home twice its original size.
We dug out the existing mini-basement to fit a large family room and separate utility, and extended the ground floor to the rear, creating enough space for a grand kitchen (by @vevesdesign) and dining area. You can either take the stairs or the slide down to the family room!
The house’s style is a mix of reinstated Victorian features – high skirting, cornices, column radiators, tiling, sash windows – and contemporary high-spec finishes, including steel windows and doors, high-quality wood flooring and exposed brick walls.
Our joiner designed the beautiful wood panelling for the hallway cloakroom and the open wardrobes between the master bedroom and its en-suite. This enviable bathroom has a spray-painted roll-top bath, crittal-style shower enclosure and stylish enamel ‘bucket sink’.
The loft was converted to accommodate a study and the rest of the house was refurbed to an extremely high standard. Our favourite landscape gardener – @david_bracher – worked with us to design and create a gorgeous garden and complete the fabulous transformation.
