For this Get Turner Design & Build project, the aim was to extend and transform the cramped modern house into a light, open, contemporary home. Our architect and building team worked closely with the client to match the design to the budget.
Downstairs, a small living area led to a separate kitchen/dining room at the rear. Upstairs, a dark staircase led up to a small bathroom and two bedrooms. We added a 1.5-storey rear extension, created one open-plan room on the ground floor, and gained extra height in the kitchen/dining area by lowering the floor level.
The new rooflight, window and bi-fold doors at the rear let in natural light, and the white kitchen units and decor enhance the feeling of space. The closed staircase was replaced with an open staircase with a contemporary vertically slatted timber screen and enough space was created for a WC to be fitted beneath the stairs. Our bespoke joiner designed and installed the ‘reading nook’ bench seat and storage, a shelving unit and full-height built-in bedroom wardrobes.
Outside, we re-designed the garden area and installed on-trend grey zinc cladding to the rear façade. This matches the aluminium doors and windows, while standing out against the yellow brickwork on either side.
Upstairs, the layout was reconfigured, with a half-width extension allowing a larger bathroom and landing area with rooflight above. The bathroom has the stylish contemporary finishes evident throughout the house, with designer fittings, lighting, tiles and Chevron-style wood flooring working within the new space to stunning effect.
